Emmaus Peer Ministry

On the road to Emmaus... (Luke 24: 13-35)

For over 30 years, Youth Ministry at St. Anne’s has focused on a peer ministry model to promote and foster leadership among youth. We use the example of the road to EMMAUS (Luke 24:13-35) as a model that we journey together, with the Lord, in our everyday lived experiences.

Who We Are:

EMMAUS is an existing group of young people who have expressed an interest in serving the Church through the Youth Ministry program for one year. For example, a group might prepare youth liturgies and retreats. Other responsibilities include planning and leading workshops, icebreakers and prayer for youth ministry meetings & facilitating small group discussions.

What We Do:

The primary function of this ministry is to guide those going through the youth ministry program and further develop leadership skills. The peer ministry group also takes on different projects throughout the year like the SOUPER Bowl project, a coat/glove/hat drive in November and a sock drive in the spring, along with our monthly stewardship collections for various charities.

Applications are available in April and due in May. After all, applications are received, you will be called for an interview.

EMMAUS meets monthly for enrichment and planning. Peer ministry is open to high school students, sophomore and above.

The annual 3-day EMMAUS Peer Ministry Retreat takes place in late June at the Diocesan Youth Retreat Center in Lafayette.
