When I read the First Reading from Exodus, I think of times where I felt like God is testing me and by testing me, I’m relating to hardships that make me question him. Sometimes it’s my life path choices and sometimes it’s who I am inside. This First Reading is interesting because these people left their homes to seek the promised land and yet their journey is not an easy one. No journey is easy, especially if you’re seeking for something that is grand. Moses called to God and received immediate help. In our time and hardships, it’s not everyday where we call upon God and receive help like Moses. It’s slow and patient. It gives you the time to reflect, pray, trust in God and continue along. God gives you the space to grow, which I believe is our own version of turning rock into water.
“Since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith - to this grace in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the glory of God... And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured into our hearts - through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” -- Romans 5:1-2,5
I feel like the Second Reading really relates to my First Reading reflection. This reading mentions how the love of God has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, meaning we are made of love. God made us with his love and grace, God gives his peace through faith. This is why we believe. It’s a really powerful couple of lines. It speaks for itself really.
While we are all sinners, we still have God’s love inside us - not just for ourselves but to share. I think this is a beautiful gift that we have. To be able to share love with one another with acts of kindness. It can be as simple as holding a door open for someone or checking in on a friend.
