In today’s gospel, we have three friends Peter, James and John walk a mountain led by Jesus. When they reached the top of the mountain, before their very eyes, Jesus was transfigured all in white and beside Jesus were prophets Moses and Elijah in which he was conversing with. Peter said aloud, “Rabbi, it is good that we are here! Let us make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” Then a voice spoke over them through the cloud overshadowing saying, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” Then it was only Jesus, Peter, James and John on the top of the mountain. As they made their way down the mountain, Jesus informed Peter, James and John not to relate what they had just seen with anyone, except when the Son of Man had risen from the dead. The matter was kept to themselves, questioning what rising from the dead meant.
What can blind us or keep us from recognizing God's glory and presence in our lives? Definitely sin and unbelief. Our faith enables us to see what is unseen from the naked eye. God is eager to share his glory with us and we see that in the gospel today when he transfigures in front of Peter, James and John. In our world today, we tend to be blinded by God’s glory, because of what our world is going through with injustice and the pandemic. But I truly believe it starts within each of our hearts to witness God’s glory and grace. Jesus is speaking to us right now, what better time than right now during this Lenten season to start to foster and strengthen your spiritual faith by praying more, fasting from your desires and giving of your time and treasures all to be more closer to Jesus. Walking right alongside Him ready for himself to transfigure right before you. When I think about this and reflect on this, it brings joy inside my body like the Holy Spirit is dancing within me. What really captures me from the Gospel reading is at the end when Jesus says not to reveal any of this to anyone, not because He doesn’t want anyone to know Him, but he said this because everything in life has a time and place. Jesus already knew when walking up the mountain what his fate would be coming back to Jerusalem. I like to believe his discussion with Moses and Elijah was Jesus letting them know that he would take up the cross for us. God glorified his son, because He obeyed. Jesus is the true temple come down from heaven who reveals the glory of God to us.
Let our faith be the guiding light for the world and let us grow closer with you Lord, so we too will witness your glory forever and ever. Amen.
