Sunday’s Gospel talks about the “Epiphany of the Lord”, when the 3 wise men (Kings) look to a shining star(light) and follow it to the baby Jesus. King Herod heard of this child and was scared. So, King Herod asked the Magi (3 kings) to find this child. The 3 kings went on their journey.
What this Gospels talks about is the start of a new journey. The beginning of the life of Jesus. It just so happens to be the beginning of the new year. What does all this mean?
This is our way to start a new journey to seek God in ways we have not traveled. The Magi traveled far to search for this child Jesus by the light of the star that was over Jesus, Mother Mary, and Joseph. And when they found baby Jesus, they kneeled before him and gave presented gifts. After, the Magi continued their journey but not to King Herod.
The gospel is telling us to begin a new journey to seek Jesus, child Christ, to have his light inside of us to shine to others. As we become like the Magi, what gift(s) do you bring to the Christ child, or when you are confirmed and receive the Gift of the Holy Spirit, what is the gift you bring to Jesus?
