Mark 10:46-52 Go your way; your faith has saved you
Have you ever encountered a once in a life-time opportunity you knew you could not pass up?
In this gospel reading, we witness a blind man named Bartimaeus experience such a moment when he is sitting roadside and hears people saying that Jesus is in their midst walking out of the town Jericho.
Bartimaeus begins to yell out “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me!” As he is yelling and begging for Jesus' attention everyone else is telling him to be silent, but the louder he gets; until finally, Jesus hears Bartimaeus calling and summons him. Jesus asks him what he wants, and Bartimaeus asks for his sight in which Jesus answers his prayer and Bartimaeus can now see. His final words to Bartimaeus are “go your way; your faith has saved you.”
Reflecting on this reading it not only shows and reveals Jesus’ healing, but also the faith and perseverance that we all go through in life just like Bartimaeus.
How many times have we heard the Bible verse “walk by faith, not by sight.” which is such an easy concept to believe, but yet so hard to do in reality, because we as human-beings want to be in control of our own destiny when we forget that it isn’t our plan, but God’s plan.
I personally struggle in my everyday life with work, bills, money, church, friends, family and thinking about the future that it causes me stress and anxiety, but I continue to pray to God as we all should.
We need to understand that God is much bigger than the problems and issues we face in life and He will get us through it if we believe and have unwavering faith.
Like Bartimaeus, we must be courageous and trust in God to make all things right. We need to always focus our attention on Jesus even through life’s distractions, because He will make straight our path with love, mercy and grace when we let go, and let God.
